Synopsis

Some mistakes can be forgiven. Some, you just have to ride out.

At fifty-two, Leslie James, an elementary school teacher, is used to teaching people how to get up. She’s overcome a prescription drug addiction and kept sober for five years, and though she’s worked to fix her relationships, she remains estranged from her teenage sons. Her sunny disposition masks the fear of being alone, facing the ravages of menopause, and growing old. She’s obsessed with hobbies from fitness to photography, desperate to stay busy and useful.

When she joins a dating app to help her newly divorced older sister, Heather, overcome dating fears, Leslie expects an awkward small talk and left-swipe situation. What she doesn’t expect is a message from Riley, a twelve-year-old “matchmaker” determined to find a girlfriend for her own rodeo-dad. Riley’s mother, battling her own demons, checked into rehab and vanished, leaving the girl in limbo until Riley tracked Wes down on her own.

Leslie’s own mother died of an overdose, and this shared loss draws them together. When they discover a surprising passion for old Norse legends, Leslie and Riley form a secret friendship. But when Wes comes home early and finds Leslie in his living room, confusion escalates to anger. Riley bolts, and Wes stumbles in pursuit, aggravating an old knee injury. With no health insurance and in the height of rodeo season, Wes risks losing both his livelihood and his newly discovered daughter. Leslie coerces Heather, a physical therapist, to aid Wes.

Determined to help Wes keep his job, ensuring he and Riley have a chance at becoming a family, Leslie steps into the world of rodeos, cowboys, and untamed horses. As she helps him reclaim his strength, she learns to trust that she is worthy of a second chance. And when the dust settles, what began as a cautious friendship might just bloom into a new family.
