BLOGS & REVIEWS
I’m so pleased with the attention On With the Butter! has received. I appreciate the positive reviews and am honored to be recognized for this work.
Kirkus Review
“An upbeat and sincere primer on living one’s best life. A sunny self-help guide that aims to reveal the secret to an active and exuberant lifestyle.
This lively and passionate motivational book’s title is a nod to an Icelandic saying, “Áfram með smjörið,” which means “keep moving” or “forge ahead.” It’s this spirit of continual growth and momentum that Icelandic-American author Herman focuses on as she encourages readers to have an open mind when it comes to life’s varied experiences.” Read entire review…

Midwest Book Review
“On With the Butter! Spread More Living onto Everyday Life presents an inspirational admonition to make the most of each day. While this may seem to mirror many, many other motivational books already on the market, Heidi Herman cultivates an ability to do more than provide encouraging words, but includes the tools needed to develop and support this attitude.
The title of this book comes from the author’s Icelandic mother and an old Icelandic expression that means “carry on,” “keep doing what you’re doing,” “forge ahead,” or “keep moving.” Herman absorbed this message and its practical applications at an early age, and pinpoints the crux of the issue, for others less familiar with these teachings: “We’re reminded to take advantage of the days we’re given, but how exactly do we do that?” Exactly how it’s done is the focus of her book.” Read entire review…
US Review of Books
book review by Donna Ford
“Boldness isn’t necessarily courageous or heroic. It’s a willingness to act with confidence or to take a risk. It’s confronting fear or insecurity…”
As we age, it is easy for people to focus primarily on health and taking care of oneself. The author’s mother took a different approach throughout her ninety-plus years of life. Her mom’s motto was “Just say yes” to any new activity or challenge, like she did with tandem paragliding when eighty-eight or learning the “Chicken Dance.” However, stepping out of your comfort zone does not always require a big leap. For example, the author’s mother spent a year (her 93rd) with the plan of doing 93 new things—new mini-adventures and experiences at any new location.” Read entire review…

“Information and Inspiration for the Solo Retirement Community”
“Normally, when I venture 25 miles west to my cabin in the woods I do so with a plan of work in mind. Insulating, watering, cleaning, moving, cutting. But today God had a different plan for me and I actually found myself listening to God and Heidi.” Read more…

“Ignite the spark in life’s second half”
“These are tough times for everyone, and retired Boomers are no exception. Many of us wonder when we’ll be able to truly emerge from forced hibernation without risking our health and well-being. When will we be able to travel again… to go to a movie theatre or a concert… to hug our grandchildren?” Read more…

“On With the Butter – A Book Review”
“This book, On With the Butter! Spread More Living onto Everyday Life is not only a tribute to the life her mother lived, but a manual for how we can all greet each day with an intent to live life to the fullest by seeking out new experiences, following new trails, and meeting new people. Getting older doesn’t mean we need to sit around and watch life pass us by.” Read more…
